Hello there, my name is Rachel- nice to meet you! I teach out of my in-home music studio, but I also travel to students’ homes and even give lessons online-whichever is most convenient for the student.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, I tailor piano, guitar and ukulele lessons to fit the needs of the student. I am a working musician, and have been featured as a pianist in commercials (AmEx), and on Television (VH1, PBS, Comedy Central, Twitch). I play at a variety of venues from upscale hotels to piano bars (LA): The Queen Mary, Disneyland, The Culver Hotel (NYC): The Manhattan Inn, Milk and Roses, and Loosie Rouge. I love incorporating familiar songs with requests and freestyle improvisation. I studied music at Oberlin Conservatory.
I teach a combination of classical sheet reading skills, music theory, musical improvisation, composition, and ear training. Musical genres I specialize in, include classical, jazz, pop, rock and roll, folk, ragtime, blues, new age, and showtunes.
My aim is to inspire students to be life long learners as well as brilliant musicians. Students who enjoy and are passionate about what they are learning progress faster. To that end, I shift focus to the musical genres and skillsets my students most connect with-while still offering a well rounded education.
I’ve taught students as young as age 3 on up to folks in their 50s and 60s, beginners to advanced. I am comfortable teaching special needs students, and have taught children with ADHD, severe epilepsy, Autism, and various learning disabilities.
